In 2008, the Rice Design Alliance sponsored an international competition to design and build a sustainable and affordable house prototype in Houston.  From 182 entries, the 6 person design team of CORE won the competition. The project won accolades for its immediate sustainable strategies: rain water harvesting, passive ventilation design and limited construction waste as well as it's broader aim in social sustainability in that the house was designed to be highly adaptive over time with demount-able walls, the ability to convert it into two units and a site design strategy that allowed for an addition house.
